Hardy Plant Society (Middlesex Group)

Middlesex Group

of the Hardy Plant Society

Welcome

Welcome to the website of the Hardy Plant Society, Middlesex Group, one of the local groups of the national Hardy Plant Society.  We are a friendly group - both of experienced gardeners and enthusiastic newcomers - but we all share an interest in hardy, herbaceous, perennials and enjoy discovering more about how to grow and display these beautiful and varied plants in our gardens.

We meet regularly, usually on the first Monday of every month at Field End Junior School, Field End Road, Eastcote. We have a varied Programme of Speakers, as well as plants for sale at our meetings. We also visit gardens, shows, and other places of horticultural interest and we organise three Public Plant Sales each year. You can find out more on the Trips and Plant Sales page.

New members are always assured of a warm welcome, so why not come along and join us?

We hold Plant Sales at every evening meeting, except December, for our members and many of our guest speakers also bring plants along for sale.

Members can bring along plants for sale at the evening meetings. These are either donated to be sold for HPS Middlesex Group funds or sold on behalf of the grower with a 10% commission to the Group.

The seller decides the price. Plants should be presented in clean pots, labelled with the plant name, some description of the plant and its cultivation. They can be any pot size from 3 inches up to 5 litres. Each label must be marked with price in multiples of 50p together with member’s initials. At any meeting, no more than 12 plants can be brought for sale by each member.

If the plant is not donated, then the selling price, less 10%, will usually be paid to the seller at the next meeting. Any unsold plants should be collected at the end of the meeting.

Members will also need to complete an invoice with the list of plants they are bringing for sale and their prices. The form is available for download here

Public Plant Sales

Plant SaleHPSMG also holds three Public Plant Sales a year,  where we have a wide selection of unusual, quality plants for sale at very reasonable prices. All the Sales take place in the Community Hut, St. Martin’s Car Park, Ruislip HA4 8BD. Sales are very popular so do get there early. You can see pictures from the April 2019 Sale here.

We have no more plant sales in 2019, but can now announce the dates for 2020 for your diary:

Saturday 18th April - 10am - 1pm

Saturday 9th May - 10am - 1pm

Saturday 6th June 10am - 1pm

If you have plants you would like to sell at the Sales, members and non members can hire a table, subject to availability. We have seven available and these are allocated on a first come first served basis. We charge for £5 a table plus 10% of sales.

There is no limit on the number of plants you can sell. You just need to decide the selling price of your plants. It’s up to you whether you label the plants or not.

Who we are

The Hardy Plant Society Middlesex Group (HPS Middlesex) is a membership organisation registered with The Hardy Plant Society (HPS), which exists to promote interest in and conservation of hardy herbaceous perennial plants. All members of HPS Middlesex must, in accordance with the constitutions of both organisations, be members of the HPS.

The Committee of HPS Middlesex acts as the organisation’s Data Controller for the purposes of the General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR). Individual Officers of the Committee may act as Data Processors, in particular the Chair, Secretary, Treasurer and Membership Secretary.

Why we keep personal data and our legal basis for doing so

HPS Middlesex keeps and uses personal data in order to run the Group efficiently and to provide our membership with the services they have paid for. To do this the Officers and others involved in the organisation of the Group from time to time need to know who our members are and to be able to communicate with them. The Group is therefore adopting the legal basis of ‘Legitimate Interest’ to justify holding and using your personal data. The committee is satisfied that it is in the legitimate interests of HPS Middlesex to maintain this data, that it is necessary and proportionate to do so and that the purposes for which the data is used cannot be achieved in any other, less intrusive, way.

The data of all members of the Group is held by the Membership Secretary and the Vice Chair. Individual members’ details are made available to and held by other Committee members and other members involved in organising activities as and when required.

Who we share it with
